Cari Ferraro has been practicing calligraphy for over three decades. She has studied with many of the finest calligraphers teaching today, and taught broad pen calligraphy to children and adults. Her design business, Prose and Letters, has fulfilled calligraphy commissions for weddings, corporations, institutions, and individuals since 1982. She also maintains a website as an online portfolio and catalog of her cards, prints, books, and wedding certificates. Her calligraphic manuscript books are collected by individuals and libraries around the country. Her work has been featured in the magazines Victoria, Letter Arts Review, and Somerset Studio; the Calligrapher's Engagement Calendar; and several wedding books. Cari makes her home in Northern California.The late Eugene Metcalf's natural talent in various art fields established him as a top calligrapher and designer. With a specialty in lettering design, Metcalf created logos for a variety of commercial applications. Of his more than 30 years in the commercial art industry, almost half of them were spent as art director and top designer for major outdoor advertising companies in the Los Angeles area.The late Arthur Newhall had a unique and varied background in the lettering and graphic design fields. His work included type designing, theater lobby displays, movie titles, sign painting, advertising art, lettering for reproduction, and art for screen printing. A guide for materials, how to write in various styles, and how to create calligraphy and lettering projects with numerous tricks of the trade and tidbits of artistic advice along the way.I taught myself calligraphy and lettering with a very simple book that came in a calligraphy pen set decades ago. I’ve played around with it ever since. But this book included loads of information about calligraphy pens, inks, and tricks of the trade I never learned from that simple book. If you want one book that will give you a good overview of just about every aspect of calligraphy and lettering, this is a fantastic pick. I haven’t done a calligraphy project in quite a while but this makes me want to do one. The creators break things down in very easy to understand language, but obviously know their stuff. Highly recommended for anyone interested in beginning or improving their skills and knowledge.I received an ARC of this title from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

TL:DR;+ Great reference material for creatives and designers+ Nice design, easy to read and understand with pics and step by step instructions+ Comprehensive guide to traditional calligraphy (nib pens, illuminated letters, basic scripts, etc) and modern lettering (with emphasis on how to design/illustrate with letters and one chapter about chalk lettering)+ More info than typical "basic guide to" with useful tips and comments- Not really a minus but consider that it doesn't have many projects (not your weekend "do something pretty in 3 steps" kind of book)--------------------------------------------- The book is divided into 3 parts, first one is traditional and contemporary calligraphy, which includes all the basics plus plenty of tips, examples, different approaches and lots of alphabets. Then it moves into modern hand lettering. Lettering illustrations and chalk lettering are the main focus and, must say, this is one of the best books I've seen that makes it approachable for beginners without skimming off important information. The third and last part "creative lettering projects" is quite short, but the projects are really nice and you get even more tips from them. My favorite is the "personalized journal cover".This is indeed a complete guide to old and new techniques, with clear explanations, step by step instructions and color images to get you inspired and ready to give it a try. What I liked the most about this book is that it goes beyond general explanations; it deepens on those aspects that need extra consideration for newbies yet keeps things simple and relevant. There wasn't a single moment I felt overwhelmed by the content. Totally recommend it. *I received this eARC so that I could give my honest opinion.

I bought the audiobook and love it. I have long bus rides to and from NYC and enjoy listening to audiobooks. This book has a lot of great ideas on networking with millionaires. Through audiobooks like this one I've come to realize working with the wealthy may be easier than the not wealthy!

This book is content rich and will an eye opener as to how one should really approach networking. It is a must have for anyone's library.

Interesting way to plan on success.I found the recommendations valuable. I will incorporate these into my life, and recommend them to my daughters as well.

This CD is not an audio book. It's an amateurish series of interviews with Thomas Stanley on how to try and sell things to rich people. This recording seems very uncharacteristic for Stanley because he has written some good books about millionaires and personal finance. By contrast, these recording has a "sleazy salesman" feel and the scripted questions asked by the interviewer are laughable. Stick to Stanley's other books.

A very interesting slant on giving great customer service. The essential idea in Networking with Millionaires is to provide more than your core product; to go above and beyond the call of duty. Dr Stanley provides a number of examples of this and a number of different approaches to try.True many examples are similar & that almost gained this CD a 4 star review from me... but then I thought of the value of the information, the fact that I will encourage everyone of my staff in every type of business to listen to this and the fact that I have learnt enough to cover the meagre cost of this CD many times over.And, after all repetition is the mother of mastery! It is always great to hear stories of success and inspiration, this CD combines these with approaches that will work in any country and industry - truly global advice.True, it's a little simple in places and the sound bites of various role plays are very cheesy, but overall I cannot give this less than 5 stars - the information is just too valuable.Enjoy it... but most of all, take action with what you learn & USE IT!

I'm a Stanley fan.. loved the "next door" books and learned much.I heard this title through Audible.com.. half the price for the full unabridged interview. I highly recommend audible.com for many other reasons, but this title makes it worth a trial membership.The true measure of lasting value for me is how often I refer to it in coaching conversations. I've listened to it multiple times, and believe it's responsible for a paradigm shift in how I look at networking and selling.If you intend to sell or market to anyone, especaily anyone with enough money or activity to be hard to reach, you MUST get this!

It is not a "word for word" audio book, but rather a partially scripted interview with Stanley where he covers the same points with same stories he uses in the book.The basic concept is that successful sales professionals build referral business by offering services beyond their core product(s). Stanley offers some new and creative ways of using the principle of "going the extra mile" for building a network of affluent and influential people who have the ability to help you if they are so inclined. Even though there are some helpful specific suggestions of how to connect with your target group(s), what is most important is having a mindset that thinks outside the box.One aspect of the recording that I particularly appreciated was providing specific reference materials that can help you learn more about how to identify concentrations of wealth. For example, the Chronicle of Philanthropy, and some directories of trade associations. These references go by very quickly in the recording, so you may need to look at a copy of the book to identify them all. These reference materials are rather obscure, so I doubt I would have ever heard of them had I not listened to/read "Networking with Millionaires."One reviewer made a valid point that it appears that Stanley is suggesting that we completely rely on the benevolence of the decision makers. While it is true that he does not discuss the downside in the book, I think it is important to use some common sense. There is a risk that you won't directly receive any benefit from helping others. You have to be judicious and not go crazy. There are clues you can look for to identify takers rather than givers. There will be times when you do not appear to receive any specific benefit from the help you provide. If you come across an obvious "taker," simply cut your losses as quickly as possible and move on. The benefits of Stanley's approach FAR outweigh this possible downside. Stanley's objective was to outline a workable approach, so I don't fault him for not including information on the downside. His materials are for professional people who should be able fill in that gap on their own.

A Room with a View is a great novel that offers insight into society during the early twentieth century. From the beginning of the book, Lucy Honeychurch, the protagonist, is torn between what is socially acceptable. This is illustrated by the love triangle between Lucy, George (her true love), and Cecil (her fiancé). George is of a lower class than her, and yet, he is the one she truly loves. Cecil is her pretentious, upper class fiancé who would rather protect her than be her equal. Will she choose George, whom is of a lower social class than her, or Cecil, the socially acceptable wierdo? The themes of love and social status are forever present in the novel. The book is made even more enjoyable by the dry humor employed by E.M. Forster. He is so serious and sarcastic whenever he makes jokes, it makes the book all the better. I found myself loving the book mainly because of how relatable Lucy is. She is a young women trying to find herself in the midst of social pressures. Overall, I thought the book was amazing and would definitely recommend it.

Good grief, this has been my second and possibly third reading of this work (This is over quite a number of years and my long term memory is beginning to fail me...sigh), and I must say that I enjoyed it as much this go-around as I did the first. There is something about this work that simply appeals to me.Now this is not to say that it will be on every readers most favored list - no, far from it, and this is how it should be. For me thought it is an excellent read and if I last longer I will most likely read it again on down the road.This is one of those tales that touches on a wide range of the general overall human condition. It should also ne noted here that the time element covered by this novel is 1908 which is pre WWI and it IS NOT taking place during the `Victorian era' of which several reviewers have stated. No, we are talking the Edwardian era in England and while some of the morals and morays of Victorian times still linger, it is never the less a different age completely. This must be understood to understand the story.Anyway, back to the subjects covered in this work: Love, prejudices, betrayal, strong but understated humor, a snapshot of a previous era, sociological observation of the English upper middle class and of course the clashes of culture; of the rather painful differences between the perceived social classes in England at that time. It also investigates the dilemma of `self' v/s the expectations of society and family. All in all, if you look at it a certain way, not much has changed over the years and the issues addressed in this classical work are still strongly among us even to this day. It takes a long, long time for attitudes in society to fade. I know in my own case that I was raised very closely to grandparents who were as about as Edwardian as you can get and there is no doubt that their influence had a great deal in molding my personality and attitudes...for better or for worse. (Hey, I am old and yes, I can remember people of that generation quite well).We have a young lady; a young lady with brains, even though she does not realize it at the time, who is motivated and pulled apart by her true feelings and those feelings that she is either suppose to have or not suppose to have in a number of situations.Yes, the author has used a number of what we could consider stereotypes of the time but he has used them to good effect and used them to tell his story quite well. While this may bother some folks, I found it to make the overall story more understandable and easier to `go down.'This work starts in Italy and drifts back to England and again, to understand the story, you have to have some understanding of the cultural gap between England and the continent in those days. Good or bad, it was what it was.Few will deny that this is a well written work...it may not be to every ones taste, as I have stated, but good is good by most standards. I can get quite lost in the author's narrative prose and descriptive writing.I was delighted to see that this work is now free via your reading machines...it was about time.Don BlankenshipThe Ozarks

This is one of my favorite books. I read it right after watching the movie. I love both. I am a fan of E.M. Forster. This was my 1st, but I have since read most of what he has written. I would say he is one of my all time favorite writers, up there with Jane Austen, and J.K. Rowling. I tend to like either Romance or fantasy/Sci fi. E.M. Forster delivers on Romance. It is true, his books may move a bit slow for some. I prefer it. I feel like I get to know the characters in a more personal way, when I see more of their day to day in the pages. This one moves faster than his others, and is the most cheerful of all his books.The characters are written so well. Lucy is our slightly bratty main character. The mother and the brother are sweet. I love Mr Beebe: the very liberal vicar. I love George and his father. Both are romantic, manly characters. Cecil is clueless but still entertaining and lovable. I love the mischievous romance novelist. I love the Miss Alans, who I am probably most like, in the story,("tiresome... with all of their iffing and butting.") I especially love that you are still able to love all of the characters despite quite obvious flaws. None of them are one dimensional characters. They all have their bright points and redeeming characteristics. Just thinking about this book makes me smile. SPOILER: My favorite line:....................................................................................................... "It is Fate, but you can call it Italy if it pleases you Vicar."

This is another absolute gem from Forster; writing, characters and story extremely good. His common themes of class and love and a changing England get a new layer of scandal and modernity that was simultaneously surprising and absolutely natural. He was able to write in the house as a character in such a way as I was transported and didn't want to leave in a hurry. Beautiful.
