When I bought this book I had no idea this was the Finley character from "Save the Date"- I love getting updates on characters I have grown to love from other books! But that was just one part that made me like this book so much. Finley is a character going through a really tough time, and she illustrates well how your sense of reality can be far away from the truth- how you can lie to yourself that things are under control, that everything is fine. But I think she gives us a valuable lesson on how easily that can happen, especially in this whole topic of girls and eating disorders. I loved seeing how she started reaching out to the safe people around her to help her see the truth of her situation, and to help her see the truth about God when she may not have been on speaking terms with Him herself at the time. As always, Ms. Jones' characters are a fine mixture of vulnerability and hilariousness. This is one I will be rereading for sure!

This book is...I just I don’t have words. A journey to Ireland to find God and healing, Finley decides to follow Will’s travel journal. After losing her brother, Will two years ago, she is still grieving & feels separate from God. As a Senior exchange student, she meets Becket Rush and her world changes. I highly recommend going on Pinterest on this journey through Ireland, it just made the story come to life. How do you heal after losing your closest brother? How do you forgive God? Loved this story so much...it had all the feels...just beautiful and heart gripping.

Finley is still trying to come to terms with her brother's death & Beckett is the golden boy who doesn't really like the spotlight all that much... yes, the characters feel like they're written for a cheesy romantic comedy, but that aside, I really did enjoy getting to know these two. Their banter was fun to read, and there were plenty of all-too-relatable moments with creative bullying from the popular girl, and wanting to help fix a situation that is beyond your control. I really enjoyed the descriptions of Ireland: its natural beauty, the people, the music, etc. I also thought the author handled the anorexia issue well, and hopefully this book would help a young reader to better recognize the signs in herself or a friend. Faith is certainly addressed here, as Finley is struggling to connect with the God that she feels her brother knew so well; she has several conversations with a nun who encourages her to seek God in her surroundings and be willing to listen for his voice (but everything stays very safe for Protestant readers ;) All that being said, the ending seemed just a bit rushed, with a tidy little epilogue, but that might just be my "mature" age showing (and this is what I get for reading a book where I'm over twice the age of the main character!)The Kindle edition did have some formatting issues, most notably with random line breaks in dialogue, which sometimes made it hard to keep track of who exactly was saying what.

This was an amazing book about finding yourself again after trauma and grief, and although I didn't always like Finley or the way she handled things, the resolution to it all was beautiful and worth it. I've been through some trauma and grief personally, the panic attacks, the whole nine yards, so I was a little bit that Finley was unwilling to tell anyone about her problem, as it's a tough thing to do and I was more than a little bit hurt by it having to have done so myself, but at the heart of it I understand and was proud of her and rejoicing with her when she accepted Jesus' love again . It was heart wrenching and beautiful and oh so powerful. This is no fluff read, but it is perhaps one of the most inspiring you'll ever pick up. Five stars

A brilliant, upbeat story about a teen's search for peace and answers after losing a close sibling, and I enjoyed it enough to name it a favorite. First YA listed among my favorite books. Finley was witty, sassy, and fun. I enjoyed her even more than the hero (which is rare), and easily related to her need for control. As Finley realized her destructive patterns, I saw parallels in my own life. Books don't usually minister to me on such a level, and it was a huge surprise, coming from a YA.Finley Sinclair journeys to Ireland as an exchange student, confident in her ability to piece her life and faith back together once she experiences the land her brother loved so well. The Catholic school comes with a sabotaging bully and an assignment to visit a crabby and dying nursing home patient--as if she hasn't had enough of death. The last notes to her audition piece for the Manhattan music conservatory waits for her at the Celtic grave marker her brother photographed, she can feel it. But her only mode of independent transportation is a bicycle. And there's that vampire movie star again--Beckett Rush keeps popping up wherever she goes, first on the plane, and now at her host family's B&B. He's interested in showing her the sights, in exchange for help with his movie lines. Finley doesn't need the trouble Beckett certainly is, but her host parents are always busy, so how else will she see Ireland? My only complaint was plot predictability. I anticipated a lot of what would happen as it unfolded. However. The wonderful characters combined with the author's talent for snark and witty dialogue compensated for what it lacked in mystery, making it a captivating read from cover to cover. I'm looking forward to reading more by Jenny B. Jones. I can just tell she'll be a favorite author for me. :-)
